Napa. 365 days of photos. Day 46.
  • April 27th, 2011

In one of the winery shops this counter was made from old barrels. I loved this idea and this shot was actually Brandon’s idea. Turned out pretty cool so kudos to the artistic eye of my husband.

Forgetting when we met but staying friends forever
  • September 29th, 2010

She had hair that went to the floor and a shy smile. We didn’t go to the same school but I saw Nikki at piano recitals twice a year. I remember being envious of her hair. We were 8.

“A best friend is that one that you look back and say when did we meet? And realize you feel like you have known each other forever…” That’s how I feel about my friendship with Nikki. We didn’t really meet until high school. That is when our friendship began, how it started, I am not totally sure. What I do know is it began somewhere over a love for dance, talking about boys, getting way to burnt at the lake, youth group, pie, Cheetos and cheese. Nikki was my diary and the one person I could tell everything to, she was my BFF. The person who reserved a whole page in my high school year book so she could write down all of our inside jokes and memories. She put them down in ink so I would never forget.

Through college we stayed in touch. We were told that we wouldn’t, that “best friends” from high school never really stay friends forever. Well we beat the odds, even though we had some disagreements on which boys we should date and different ideas on where life should take us. We stayed friends. We saw each other through the mid-terms, parties, breakups, graduation, real life and finally our happy endings. Nikki married her high school sweet heart and I married my knight in shining armor, both Brandon’s…our Brandon’s. When I called to tell Nikki I was engaged she screamed and I swear I could hear her jumping up and down on the other end. When I went to her house, just a few days after, she met me at the door with bridal magazines! That was also the night Nikki told me her and Brandon were going to try to start a family. I screamed… and jumped.

I remember the call so vividly! “Hey Steph, I have some news!” I knew right away she was pregnant and I was smiling ear to ear saying over and over “oh my gosh, I knew it!” Then she said “bet you didn’t know it would be twins!” que the screaming and jumping!

My best friend, with that long beautiful hair, has grown up and become a wife and a mommy. Nikki, you are so much of my past and you will be so much of my future and I am so proud to have you in my life. Your babies are exquisite. I could take photos of them all day long. I love you, your Brandon and your children with all of my heart!
